    eBay: On Location – Orlando
    I’ve been to every one of these over the past 2 years and I look forward to them every time. It’s an opportunity for me to meet sellers of all experiences that have become friends over the years. For you, it’s an opportunity to learn tips and tricks on how to build a business through commerce. Using a combo of external and internal experts that specialize in different aspects of running an online business, this 2-day event seems to get better each time. Although, some attendees might be asking for a refund this time around because I’m slated to present on social media on Wednesday to bloggers ahead of the conference.

    This immersive event gives everyone from new sellers to top sellers the proven tips and strategies they need to be more successful on eBay. Find out what works best from eBay experts, business gurus and from your fellow eBay sellers, then use that knowledge to boost your sales, customer loyalty and profitability!

    In addition to the networking and educational sessions, your registration gives you access to our Expo Space where you can meet with the event sponsors, the opportunity to meet and talk with employees from throughout eBay, entry to our Seller Celebration Dinner on Wednesday night and a continental breakfast and lunch on Thursday!

    X.Commerce Innovate Developer Conference 2011
    This one is a little closer to home for me – in my home town to be exact. Held at the Moscone Center, San Francisco on October 12 & 13, the Innovate Developer Conference will be showcasing the very latest and greatest of commerce solutions. I’m looking forward to capturing interviews, keynotes and feedback to share with all Ink readers. Here is some more info…

    The X.commerce Innovate Developer Conference 2011 is designed for anyone—systems integrators, developers, merchants—to meet up on all things commerce. For the first time, solutions from beginning to end for any system and storefront will be available for discussion, or even for use.

    Over the course of two days—and a memorable evening party graced with a headlining act—attendees can choose among 49 different sessions of round-tables, demos, presentations and workshops.

    Topics cover the essentials for:
    * Commerce trends
    * Mobile commerce trends
    * Technology trends
    * eBay
    * PayPal
    * Magento
    * and X.commerce itself

    Speakers include local and international experts from the marketplace as well as the back end of coding; from inside the powerhouses of eBay and PayPal as well as explosive entrants in the field like Where.com, Milo, and RedLaser.

    Open Mobile Summit
    The Open Mobile Summit returns to San Francisco November 2-4 and eBay’s CEO, John Donahoe, has been invited to keynote the event.

    * Identify: How you will profit in the open mobile Internet economy
    * Do business: With the most influential players in converging mobile, Internet and media
    * Hear: The latest in 4G, the cloud, platform wars, discovery, advertising, monetizing apps and much more!
    * Explore: The device future, where the smartphone meets the tablet and the connected TV
    * Define: Your strategy in the context of the fast changing competitive landscape

    Again, I’ll be attending all three events and covering here for Ink readers. If you’re planning to attend any of these events and want to meet up, please shoot me a tweet @ebayinkblog.

    Cheers,
    RBH

    eBay to Acquire Magento; Video message from eBay CEO, John Donahoe

    Magento Logo

    eBay Inc. today announced that it has agreed to acquire Magento Inc., the creator of Magento, a leading open source ecommerce platform. The deal follows eBay’s acquisition of a minority stake in the company in 2010. Upon closing of the transaction, eBay will own 100% of the outstanding shares of Magento. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in Q3 2011.

    It was also announced that Magento will join X.Commerce, eBay’s newly created integrated open source platform group. Something I’m particularly interested in. According to today’s announcement, the group is focused on leveraging the company’s assets and partner technologies to build a strong, robust developer community as a resource for merchants and retailers of all sizes. More details will be shared with developers during the X.Commerce Innovate conference on Oct. 12-13 in San Francisco and I’d like to sit down with key members of the group to share more info here with Ink readers too. In the meantime, here is a video message to developers from John Donahoe, CEO, eBay Inc.
