I’m back at HQ nice and early this morning. Excited because today marks our first Classifieds Committee Day hosted by eBay / Kijiji.
I’ll be recapping a lot of today’s activities and discussions. Here are some photos to start the day…

I wanted to provide an update to what has been happening with The Garden by eBay since I first talked about it last month. You can see my initial video interviews and posts about it HERE and HERE.
First of all, the response in the first few weeks has been pretty impressive. Over 8,000 individuals have logged into The Garden over the past month and the team has received over 1,200 pieces of individual feedback. For example:
“I LOVE the side by side view…and you were so SMART to set it so that I can watch Newly Listed on the Buy It Now at the same time I’m watching Ending soonest on the Auctions! PERFECT! I also like the Quick View Very much!”
“I love the remove/see similar features. They are great for narrowing search results to get exactly what you want. However, I do wish there were ways to narrow down search results even more…”
As a result, there are already some definite changes coming in a few weeks. The following enhancements will roll-out by mid-May based on feedback: (More …)

eBay launched the Green Team Challenge earlier today and, in doing so, committed to saving up to a quarter of a million acres of rainforest for consumers who choose to reuse. For the first 250,000 people that pledge to reuse on eBay, an acre of rainforest will be protected in their name through a new collaboration with Team Earth, a unique coalition of NGOs, private sector companies and individuals convened by Conservation International (CI).
“We are delighted that eBay continues to demonstrate their strong support for the environment by becoming a member of Team Earth,” said Julie Blackwell, Senior Director of Team Earth at Conservation International. “eBay’s passionate community has changed the way we shop and we have no doubt that they can change the way we consume. They are a perfect partner to rally collective action around some of the most pressing environmental issues of our day.”
eBay also introduced its new green shopping hub – green.ebay.com – designed to help consumers access the millions of green products available on the marketplace. The hub encourages consumers to follow three simple guidelines: first, choose items that are pre-owned, vintage or refurbished; second, check whether an item is made from sustainable materials, such as those featured on WorldofGood.com by eBay; and third, choose energy and other resource saving products. I am a notorious “pack-rat”. A fact that my wife finds little joy in. Maybe this is the promotion for her. eBay Classifieds marketplace, Kijiji, is currently running a promotion that enables people to “Take your Loved One to Clutter Court.”
Simply submit a brief description and photo of the object in question, along with your contact information. We’ll then pick a deserving entrant to win an in-home consultation from one of our “Clutter Judges, ” who will help to reorganize your living space so that you two can live in perfect harmony.
If you’d like an opportunity to win an additional prize, simply follow @KijijiUS and retweet, “Take your loved one to @KijijiUS’s Clutter Court! Retweet for a chance to win a $50 organizing supply store gift card bit.ly/kijijicc ” Once you retweet, we’ll automatically enter you to win one of eight $50 organizing supply gift cards!
I can’t think of a single item I’d want my wife to submit… which kind of proves her point I guess. Maybe she won’t see this post and I’ll get to keep all my stuff.
Cheers,
RBH

eBay Motors today launched an online shopping experience for new vehicles, giving auto dealers and manufacturers an alternative channel to market inventory to local buyers.
This new car option, powered by online auto-buying platform Zag, allows franchise dealers to target a highly-qualified group of local consumers ready to purchase a new vehicle in a no-haggle environment. Through this new car offering, more than 2,600 certified Zag dealers join the eBay Motors family. With the addition of this offering, eBay Motors modifies its homepage to offer shoppers the option to either choose new cars or used cars.

eBay has launched a new initiative to help “sow the seeds of innovation” with community input on new products and features before they go live on the site. The “Garden by eBay” is a new area on eBay.com that allows community members to try out new products and features and give the team working on the initiative feedback on suggested improvements and changes. The experimental space was designed to encourage eBay users to contribute to the growth of initial concepts to fully “grown,” ready-to-launch products and features. (More …)
