“Welcome… to yet another corporate blog.”
I can still remember how nervous I was when I first published that sentence and eBay Ink went live to the world at 11:00am PT on Wednesday, April 2, 2008. John Donahoe became CEO of eBay Inc. that same week. At the risk of winning the King of Understatements Award, there was a lot to write about.
It has been quite a ride since then. We’ve published 1,223 posts since that day and enjoyed (maybe that’s a strong word) 7,373 comments since then. Twitter (@ebayinkblog), Flickr (flickr.com/ebayink) and YouTube (youtube.com/ebayink) have all grown incredibly over time too.
The relationships forged through the sheer breadth of news we’ve covered here on Ink is overwhelming and quite humbling when I sit down and look back on the last 4 years of Ink. Far too many to single out here and so as not to repeat myself, I’ll keep this post brief.
All of what I’m feeling on a day like today – hitting the four year milestone of our little corporate blog with the dorky eyes looking back at you – is captured in the following blog post that I wrote toward the end of 2010: What’s in an eBay Feedback score? In a Twitter Follower count?… Just a human being. That’s all:
This blog post may only be read by a few hundred folks and, in the grand scheme of things, that may seem pretty insignificant. However, when I break it down out of stats and pageviews, I realize that each individual took time out of their day to read this sentence and that is a) pretty humbling and b) inspiring for me to write something worthwhile.
Back to it. Thanks for sticking with us.
Cheers,
RBH
