VIDEO: John Donahoe meets with Quick Ship Electronics

I think it has been about 4 months since someone introduced eBay CEO John Donahoe to the FlipCam. He has been hooked ever since, producing short video blogs for employees to view on our Intranet (iWeb).

I saw that he took it with him during a visit to Quick Ship Electronics in Woodinville, WA last month. Although the video was originally shot with an internal audience (eBay employees) in mind, I figured because it was already public on YouTube I would take advantage and share with folks here on Ink. With a lot of the changes announced in the July Seller Release coming in just a few weeks (end of September / beginning of October), and the launch of the eBay Top rated seller program, I’ve been hoping to catch up with some of the folks here at eBay regarding what’s coming.

I managed to sit down with Gene Cook, Director of Global Search at eBay earlier today. eBay Give.Good.Green launches this week, the first eBay promotion to link all five of the company’s social good initiatives (eBay Foundation, eBay Giving Works, MicroPlace, WorldofGood.com and the eBay Green Team) with all eBay users to make a difference through a number of different activities on eBay. I managed to sit down with Jennifer Ibarra to talk a little more about it. I apologize in advance for the shaky camera work – I filmed it early in the morning on my third cup of coffee and I think I had a tough time keeping the camera straight! (Need to invest in a stand maybe?). Regardless, here you go…

Gang,
It has been a while since I did one of these so I thought it was about time for a new “5 Minutes with…” As I’ve tried to do with previous installments, I’ve tied the interview into some timely news or activity happening here. Kasey Hesse is based back in PayPal‘s Omaha, Nebraska offices where she launched a Corporate Community Garden program allowing employees to plant crops on a small plot of land. The program has expanded now to the North Campus here in San Jose, so I thought it would be good to spend “5 Minutes with…” Kasey while she was here. Check out the story from local ABC 7 regarding the project and also be sure to check out her answers to our recurring Q&A feature… my favorite answers to date!

I’ve been hoping to start introducing more video to the blog. So when I had some questions for Todd Lutwak coming out of this week’s eBay Marketplace seller announcement, rather than publish a written account of his answers, I thought it best to just have him answer on camera.

I was unable to meet with Todd myself so my friend and colleague, Ryan Burnham, went and tracked him down armed with a few questions I’d written up and a Flipcam. A huge thanks to Todd and Ryan for taking the time to do this for eBay Ink. Here is the subsequent footage.

Happy Monday everyone! Even though I’m out on holiday this week, I did manage to line up some pretty fun, interesting posts for you while I’m out.

The first involves a pretty cool eBay promotion currently taking place at Times Square. Stuart Elliott captured the essence of the event in his blog post on Friday. Essentially, eBay, with the assistance of Monty Hall and Mario Cantone, is taking over Times Square for 3 days this week hosting our own version of Let’s Make a Deal called “Let’s Make A Daily Deal.” (More …)

eBay Developers Conference 2009: A Recap

I was only able to attend the first day of the eBay / PayPal Developers Conference this year but the coverage coming out of the event has been so consistent and thorough, I felt that I was able to get enough information to feel like I didn’t miss a thing.

Bottom line, the whole team over there – Delyn, Max, Adam, Laura, Kumar (I could go on) – put on another fantastic agenda and the feedback from those in attendance that I talked to was overwhelmingly positive. Feel Good Friday: Our Intern is all grown up

As some of you already know, I am getting ready to leave for a Summer vacation (or holiday for those of my British brethren) and am in the process of making sure I leave Ink in good hands during my absence.

However, before I do, I wanted to give a shout out to a group of individuals that work incredibly hard but seldom get the public recognition for it. Our interns. When Sarah Fleming joined the Internal Communications team last year, she was with 150 peers taking part in Intern orientation for eBay. She graduated from Santa Clara University last weekend and is ready (or at least thinks she is) to head out into the “real world.” (More …)
