Earlier this week, Arthur W. Page Society members attended the Page Society’s West Coast Social Media Summit, hosted and sponsored by eBay Inc., at our company’s headquarters in San Jose, CA. The full-day program focused on emerging trends and the dynamics of an authentic social enterprise, featuring leading experts, innovators and practitioners who are helping to invent and shape new social media engagement models and platforms that are transforming engagement and communications throughout society and business.
Two of the featured speakers were Christopher Barger, SVP of Global Programs for Voce Communications and Connie Chan Wang, Manager of Social Media at LinkedIn.
The Social Media Strategist

Christopher presented thoughts and best practices stemming from his recently published book, “The Social Media Strategist: How to Build a Successful Program from the Inside Out“. In particular, he emphasized the differences of – but equal importance of having – both an executive champion for social and a social media evangelist. He also stressed the importance of giving the entire workforce the keys, guidelines and tools to be successful in social media on behalf of the brand.
“A good social media evangelist for a brand is renting the position not owning it. Personal brand is good… to a point” @cbarger #AWPSocial

Connie Chan Wang gave some case studies and examples of companies blazing the trail with LinkedIn integration into their HR programs to help connect employees across business units and geographies and to encourage a more engaged and interactive workforce.
“LinkedIn is growing at a rate of 2 members per second. There were 4 billion people searches in 2011″ @cheesycons #AWPSocial
