Check out eBay Instant Sale and a new special iPhone promotion starting today [video interview & demo]

eBay Instant Sale launched back in October and in the past 4 months it seems to have been a pretty popular feature… for those using it. However, we haven’t really promoted it all that much as we’ve been tweaking features here and there. All that changed today though.

Coinciding with the Verizon iPhone launch this week, eBay is launching a special promotion (February 8 – February 22) through the Instant Sale platform that offers a guaranteed price of $200 for some popular smartphones. Visit http://www.ebay.com/iphone for details.

I sat down with director of seller experience, Arnaud Collin, to talk about eBay Instant Sale; the promotion running for the next two weeks; and I also give a (semi) demo of the experience.

I’m going to try it out this week with a couple of old gadgets I don’t use anymore so I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Cheers,
    RBH

What a wonderful and smart idea! I’ve so many used electronics to sell, and this makes it easier than ever for me to sell those items. I also love the aspect of recycling the items if they’re not sellable.

Just wondering,

What does eBay do with items that are bought through instant sale?

Richard Brewer-Hay / February 9th, 2011 at 10:51 am

Thanks Derek,
We are working with leading eBay electronics resellers to handle item valuation, resale fulfillment and recycling. These sellers were selected based on the breadth of inventory they accept as well as the pricing that they offer. They collaborate with e-recycling organizations that are certified to very high standards. The recyclers that our seller partners are currently working with (ECS Refining and Cloud Blue) are certified e-stewards – organizations that are committed to the highest standard for globally responsible electronics recycling and refurbishment.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
RBH

^^

So we are selling them. Right? Sort of a confusing answer

Richard Brewer-Hay / February 9th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

Hi Adam,
Sorry if that was confusing. eBay electronics resellers will be doing the selling.

unfortunately, it’s not clear that consumers are working with a 3rd party for Instant Sale, and in my case AllTech Wholesale / CEXchange has not followed the terms of the agreement. No notification of how much they would pay, but nine days later a mere $15.00 for a perfect iPhone 3G 8g!!!

the wholesaler is impossible to reach and eBay customer service reps don’t understand their own Instant Sale program!

Ripoff!! They say one thing $200.00 for a great iphone 3 and after they get the phone they tell you that they will only give you $80.00 If you did that to a customer Ebay would make you refund the sale.
