New Post — VIDEO — Home movie from eBay employee: “The Turnaround”

Every year we have an internal “film festival” open to all global employees inviting them to make short home movies about a specific theme around our business. This year, the theme was “A Vision of the Future” of eBay. I haven’t had a chance to see all the entries but this one, from a friend and colleague here in San Jose, really caught my eye and I wanted to share with people here on eBay Ink.

Yes, there is cynicism in all walks of life – I throw around my fair share on a weekly basis – but I found this video to be simple, genuine, and inspiring all at the same time. Hope you liked it too.

    Cheers,
    RBH

Brilliant – loved it. Slightly worried about the people who’ll stop watching halfway through, mind you… ;-)

Wow! Talk about a lengthy palindrome! (Is it still called a palindrome if it reads differently backwards than forwards?) Whatever it is, it’s brilliant! I love this video. It captures all that I want to believe about eBay. May it be so!

Fantastic! Nice narrative. Clever. Half empty or half full?

eBay is facing tough times and is instituting various policies such as not threatening Sellers who do not offer Free Shipping with less than preferable search results.

Sellers are paying their Store Fees, Listing Fees and Final Value Fees plus fees are being generated which benefit its related company PayPal. Despite this, eBay is now squeezing its Sellers to provide Free Shipping. How disingenuous!

The policy on eBay has always been that Buyers pay the shipping. An ebay representative told me that eBay now wants its Sellers to build in the shipping cost to the selling price which further burdens the Seller and enable eBay to generate further profits for its Wall Street earning reports.

Cool video. It’s pretty clear that the concept owes something to one about the Future of Publishing done by a UK book publisher that circulated among bibliophiles a while back:

but the execution here for eBay’s own message is indeed pretty cool…
