I wanted to share a couple of videos that ran today on CNBC.
The first features eBay CEO, John Donahoe, discussing eBay’s take on Black Friday activity in the marketplace and PayPal‘s role in that. He also talks about m-commerce, and the early successes of the eBay Mobile application… (More …)
After all the turkey, beer, stuffing, wine, pork, beer, mashed potatoes, wine, pumpkin pie and wine that I had on Thursday I can’t imagine heading to the mall in the middle of the night to try and find the latest deal. After hosting an even dozen family and friends it was all I could do to login to eBay and check out all the deals without leaving the house on “Black Friday.” Looking at the hi-tech, flashy “heat map” over on the eBay Holiday site, I wasn’t alone.
Essentially, eBay has created a transaction map of the United States that spans the duration of yesterday’s Black Friday shopping activity on the site. The map is a visualization of U.S.-based buyer and seller transactions over that 24-hour period. (More …)
eBay has released a new “Deals” application available now for free from the iTunes app store. The new app provides a constant stream of the best deals across hundreds of millions of ebay.com listings and features simple navigation, customizable search features and PayPal integration that makes check-out fast and easy.
The Deals app is the latest addition to eBay’s mobile offerings; eBay also just released an upgraded version of its eBay iPhone app with new features such as social networking integration. (More …)
First of all, my personal apologies that I’m only just getting something up now. Inexcusable and I assure you it won’t happen again. This official statement was made by eBay Inc. this evening:
SAN JOSE — Saturday, Nov 21, 7 p.m. PST — eBay expects full search functionality to be restored to eBay.com on Sunday after a technical issue today resulted in searches returning either limited or no results throughout the day today. The identified technical issue has been fixed and is being implemented across the site. (More …)

According to the Climate Counts Blog, the biggest jump in their third annual Corporate Climate Scores was by eBay. With a jump of 48 points to 53 (yes, I realize that this means eBay was pretty low this time last year), eBay stands out among a list of 90 well-known consumer companies. For the second straight year, Nike’s score of 83 points (out of a possible 100) topped the list. (More …)
Okay, it’s not exactly Las Vegas but it certainly does have it’s own “What happens here…” moniker in some respects. Having only visited a handful of times, Washington D.C. still feels like a world unto its own and, thanks to the eBay Government Relations team, you have the opportunity to be a part of that world – for 3 days/2 nights – in the near future. (More …)
In England it is called Remembrance Day and in the US it is called Veterans’ Day. It is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War.
We all have family members and/or friends that have served, or are still serving, their country in some capacity. My Grandpa fought in World War II (my Grandma, for that matter, was in the Women’s Land Army). My father-in-law was a tank driver in the army. His father was a Colonel under General Patton and I’ve had many friends that have fought in more recent conflicts – from the Falklands to the Gulf War.
I saw the following video when I first joined eBay. It’s a sweet, stirring story of how one eBay seller, Frank Sebroski, and a buyer, Gene Kieffer, gave a World War II veteran, Lee Nisperly, a Christmas he would never forget.
To all the men and women who have worn a uniform defending our freedom… making it so I can go home each day and feel safe with my wonderful family, I thank you and I’ll raise a pint in your honor tonight.
eBay Motors announced a pretty cool “first” earlier today. The leading online automotive marketplace now offers free vehicle history reports through an exclusive agreement with Experian’s AutoCheck.
It’s a good deal for eBay Motors users and not just because it’s free. Cars listed with a vehicle history report enjoy 15% more interest than those without. Many top dealers already offer vehicle history reports because of the increased sales that come with transparency. With more than 10 million unique visitors browsing its vehicle listings every month, eBay Motors already sells a passenger car every minute. (More …)
While I was attending the PayPal X conference in SF last week, eBay enjoyed a fairly significant achievement over in Europe. Specifically, 14 EU data protection authorities approved eBay’s privacy standards and procedures.
