One of the biggest topics of conversation to come out of this week’s Spring announcement regarding the eBay Marketplace was the changes to the resolution process. Yesterday, I shared an interview with Todd Lutwak and focused more on the Smart FAQs and package tracking. Today, I’m sharing a conversation with Chad O’Meara, VP of eBay Marketplace Customer Service focused more on the resolution process. Again, I managed to include our regular questions with the more specific ones around the news. So with that, I give you 5 Minutes With… Chad O’Meara: (More …)

I first wrote about this story back in August and September of last year. You can see that initial post here.
According to a press release this evening, eBay Inc. has signed an agreement to expand its Asian operations to include Gmarket, Korea’s leading online marketplace. The tender offer is at $24.00 per share for a total purchase price of up to approximately $1.2 billion. (More …)

Given the eBay Marketplace news yesterday, I thought I’d take advantage of sitting down with some of the folks on the team and see if I could get them to give us some new “5 Minutes with…” interviews at the same time.
Without further ado, first up is “5 Minutes with…” (Well, 15 actually) Todd Lutwak… (More …)

eBay Inc. has announced that it plans to separate Skype from the company, beginning with an initial public offering that is intended to be completed in the first half of 2010.
“Skype is a great stand-alone business with strong fundamentals and accelerating momentum,” said John Donahoe, eBay Inc.’s President and CEO. “But it’s clear that Skype has limited synergies with eBay and PayPal. We believe operating Skype as a stand-alone publicly traded company is the best path for maximizing its potential. (More …)

In an article I ran here on Ink back in February, Dinesh Lathi, VP of eBay Seller Experience, explained that eBay was moving to a twice yearly product release cycle when it came to changes in the marketplace. Additionally, he said that the announcements would be made at least 60 days in advance of changes in order to provide sellers and developers enough time to adjust and minimize disruption.
Previewed last night on the AuctionBytes blog and confirmed by eBay this morning, today marks the first of the two announcements of this year. This one includes the introduction of new buyer incentives, Smart FAQs, and a new resolution process: (More …)

Although no press release will be issued by the company, eBay Inc. today confirmed the sale of StumbleUpon in the following statement:
“StumbleUpon remains a fast-growing company with potential for continued growth in the online discovery market. As eBay Inc. expands its leadership in online payments and ecommerce, it has become apparent that there are few long-term, strategic synergies between StumbleUpon and the eBay Inc. portfolio. The separation of the two companies is the right move to further StumbleUpon’s success while eBay Inc. continues to focus on strategies to connect buyers and sellers across its many platforms.”
StumbleUpon was acquired by eBay back in May of 2007. Terms of today’s sale will not be disclosed and, judging by conversations I’ve had here internally, the above statement is the final word coming out of the company regarding the deal.

I have been fortunate to sit in on a few Kijiji and eBay Classifieds meetings over the past year and I’m always left feeling inspired after getting a chance to sit down with General Manager of Kijiji US, Martin Herbst. His passion for what he does on a daily basis is infectious. He and his team had given me a heads up last week about some key enhancements to the Kijiji US site which at first glance may not seem so significant but together they really reflect one of his team’s goals of enabling an easy-to-use marketplace to help families find better values and new jobs. The importance of which, given the current state of affairs, can’t be stressed enough. (More …)

“Welcome to yet another corporate blog…“
That’s how it all began, a year ago today. Indeed. Today marks one year to the day that this blog has been up and running. I had debated writing a standalone post regarding the milestone. It is, after all, rather self serving and I’ve been pretty busy this week at the Web 2.0 Expo but I figure I’d take a few minutes to reflect. (More …)

I’m sending this from the Web 2.0 Expo floor so am taking copy direct from the press release.
According to a press release issued by eBay Inc. this afternoon, Skype is asking a U.K. court to resolve a dispute with Joltid Limited, which owns peer-to-peer communication technology licensed by Skype for use in its software.
From the press release:
In a recently filed claim with the English High Court of Justice in London, Skype is asking the Court to find that Joltid’s efforts to terminate the agreement are invalid and that Skype is not in breach of the licensing agreement.
The licensing agreement dispute was previously disclosed by eBay in its most recent annual report, issued February 20. The report states that Skype terminated a “standstill” agreement, allowing either party to take action against the other beginning in March. Joltid is attempting to terminate the agreement based on allegations that Skype has breached its terms. Skype strongly refutes those allegations and is confident of its legal position.
The full press release can be found here.
