Considering the fact that the last eBay Inc. analyst meeting was in 2006, I guess it is no surprise that there has been a lot of anticipation leading up to tomorrow. I’ve heard that the event is at capacity given the number of analysts confirmed to attend but I still plan on finding a spot somewhere in the room so I can live-blog the proceedings via the eBay Ink twitter feed: http://twitter.com/ebayinkblog. The event is scheduled to run from 8am – 2:30pm PT so it will definitely constitute the longest live-blogging stint I’ve done for Ink yet (for those of you die-hard “tweeters” the #hashtag on Twitter for covering tomorrow is #ebayinc). Half.com Comes to eBay: What does this mean for Sellers?

Recently, as reported here on Ink, eBay committed to giving sellers 60 days notice of changes that may impact their business – and that this would happen only twice a year. Consistent with that commitment, today eBay made an AB post that announced that in early May, Half.com inventory will be available on eBay.com. For Half.com sellers this means that beginning in early May, your inventory will become discoverable on eBay.com for no additional fee. According to my sources, we are making this change for two critical reasons that will ultimately have bearing on all sellers. (More …) -

eBay Issues Preliminary Proxy

eBay filed its preliminary proxy statement today in advance of the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting on April 29.At first look, I see two noteworthy aspects to it: first, proxies always generate interest in executive pay at any publicly traded company, and reading the footnotes in a proxy always is a must to understand the full story. That’s certainly true this year with eBay, because at first glance it seems like CEO John Donahoe and CFO Bob Swan were the only executives to receive a bonus in 2008, when other executives listed in the proxy got zero. However, in looking at the footnotes, no eBay executive officers received bonuses in 2008, based on the company’s performance. Payments shown for John and Bob actually are part of special retention bonuses they were given when hired by the company (again, it’s all in the footnotes). (More …)

5 Minutes With… Hannes Neunhaeuserer

I’m still working on next week’s Feel Good Friday post (it involves an extraordinary story from eBay Platinum Powerseller Larry Phillips) but in the meantime I wanted to share my latest “5 Minutes…” with.I met Hannes Neunhaeuserer while I was visiting the German eBay offices last year. (The scarf above should have given away the fact that he’s European). He works in Internal Communications over there and is one of the nicest guys I met on my trip. He just stopped by my cube yesterday while he was here on business and I managed to take the above picture of him and ask him the “5 Minutes with…” questions. (More …)

Introducing the eBay Green Team

As first reported by the New York Times, we’ve launched a new eBay Green Team website this week and are also raising awareness for sustainable shopping through a number of magazines over the next few weeks. There are a lot of pretty cool features to the new website including tips and suggestions for “greener” ways to approach buying and selling, but what I find the most compelling is the open invitation for people to participate in an interactive discussion right there on the site, called Green Team Talks, about sustainable shopping and sharing ideas with each other. Team members also are invited to take “eBay Green Team Challenges” to learn how small, everyday changes can have a large, positive impact on the environment.

…On Sunday I talked about eBay launching eBayClassifieds.com in two key U.S. markets. Then this morning, it was reported that San Mateo-based startup, Oodle, has been given the reins to Facebook‘s Marketplace application – essentially hoping to turn it into an online Classifieds tool for Facebook users. Then, there’s the news out of Spain today… (More …)

eBay to test eBayClassifieds.com in target U.S. markets

eBay is no stranger to running tests across its platforms. In the Classifieds Group, for example, they opened up Spanish language sites in Texas and Florida last year to see if the bilingual communities in those States would find it useful. They also tested Gumtree –known very well in the UK – in Boston, Chicago and New York for the expatriates living in those cities.
