Speaking of best match...I'd love an explanation of what its doing in the arts categories where they deal predominantly in one of a kind paintings. How do you fit those into best match? Its all baloney to me (shrug)

EBAY revenues are down. BEST MATCH search is the default. Without the latest news, the unique and great items often end without bids or are missed by interested bidders because BEST MATCH has destroyed revenues for sellers and EBAY. Who determines my best match? EBAY's logorithm does not work for me. And many buyers tell me they miss the END OF AUCTION because they are defaulted to BEST MATCH and didn't know how to change that.

Now, will best match of the common books make it even more difficult to sell unique, collectible books?

GET RID OF BEST MATCH. Please. Other companies who use it don't depend on END OF AUCTION bids. You are hiding the good stuff and hurting the sellers, buyers and EBAY'S bottom line.

Please.

This is unreal. Now all of my media store inventory will be buried with half.com inventory. Even if I move to fixed I will still be lost in the search.

I just recently exterminated with Amazon and it now is even looking better. No DSR hoops, fixed shipping that makes a level playing field for everyone including no option for buyer to comment on shipping cost. The shipping speed question is based upon a calculation of ship time + normal media shipping time so buyer understands "did it arrive in 14 - 21 days? Yes or No". Not the 5 star question when something is shipped within 12 hours and buyer gets it in 4 days and gives a 4 star that still hurts the seller.

I thought eBay and Griff was saying this is the year for the seller improvements since last year was for the buyers benefits.

Come on eBay, I am waiting, as a 9+ year seller trying to survive. Your moves are making Amazon look better every day.

I just began using Half.com about two weeks ago, since I found the auction fees and limited time fixed listings were not long enough to actual get any sales on small books and low selling games.

I sold one video game and one book on Half.com in the past two days.

I think the 15% Half.com commission on each sale is fine, but what bothers me is that they take a cut of the shipping cost it appears. That money should go to the seller for packing expenses, especially since things sell so low there.

I have sold on eBay in the past and now more recently.

I think mixing the two has pros. and cons. The advantage of Half.com is that there are no listing fees, no Final Closing fees, and the listing does not expire as far as I can tell. Plus you get your own inventory store like page on Half.com so you can give it out as your store page.

I also like that though I use PayPal for shipping my Half.com items, they do not take a cut - and on Half.com my sales go directly to my bank account instead of to an PayPal Account.

The other good thing about Half.com is that people shopping there can also click a link to visit your ebay items for sale.

I think potentially this could be a good move for Half.com, because it should technically force some of the low selling items at Half.com to rise to a genuine market value. On the eBay side, I think it could increase book sales there.

Well, it took me a year of consideration to begin selling on Half.com. I like eBay since I get the full shipping and handling costs to cover expenses, where as Half.com reimburses you a fixed portion regardless of the actual price.

I had just been wondering before I heard this announcement if my Half.com sales show up on eBay. I know my feedback does.

But, I think I am going to hold off until I know how the shipping on eBay is going to work with Half.com since Half.com has set shipping prices.

"The Postal service is now making mandatory in person hand delivery of any Media Mail 13 ounces and over. "

Since when? Any parcel over 13 oz BEARING STAMPS has been subject to security restrictions for years. It's not just media mail.

Classes of mail with metered/online postage do not have to be hand delivered. That defeats the purpose.

Media Mail has become such a burden, sellers are most likely going to Amazon for media listing just for the simplicity of their site listing protocol. The Postal service is now making mandatory in person hand delivery of any Media Mail 13 ounces and over. Tranlates into long wait at PO Office to turn in every shipment. With Amazon's enormous commission taken off the top,it is still better than being buried under Half.com where no one will see these small sellers offers anyway. Guess the line forms here and looks like it is growing rapidly, yet another great fallout of 2009.

Here again, ebay is making it easy for sellers with multiples of each item. The small time on eitems seller just gets lost. I am ready to give my books away rather than try to sell on ebay. SO many sellers also give no information, I have to go to amazon to see what the book is about!
My 2 Cents,

Someone mentioned "Why have half.com at all?".

Interestingly, they almost didn't. A few years back (probably a couple years after ebay acquired half.com) ebay attempted to shut it down, pushing all the seller to ebay Stores from Half.com. There was a bit of a furor and they backed down. From the perspective of someone that sells in low volume in both places, I am looking forward to it, assuming they get the implementation right. Of course that's because I've used Half.com for media that I have that I am in no hurry to sell, and ebay for higher demand items.
