eBay Previews Holiday Shopping Deals

eBay announced today that it is introducing a number of holiday deals starting next week that are intended to offer the best prices on the gifts people want most.
Beginning November 3rd, and running for 45 days, eBay will be running a Daily Deal promotion. Each day a different product – from categories including electronics, sporting goods, video game accessories, sporting goods, video game accessories, DVD movie and home and garden – will be available at a fixed-price and deep discount off MSRP with free shipping. These limited-quantity items will be available daily by 3 p.m. EST.
Also starting on November 3rd, shoppers can bid on some of the hottest electronics all starting at $1 on eBay, by taking part in the “Bid From $1” auction format series. From Nov. 3 to Dec. 17, thousands of new items such as MP3 players, GPS devices, cameras, video game consoles and video games will be offered in auction-style listings with $1 starting bids, no minimum final-price reserves and with free shipping.
eBay also announced the following promotions:
• $1 Holiday Doorbuster: Each day from Nov. 24 to Dec. 8, the eBay site will offer $1 Doorbuster deals – limited quantities of two different items at a fixed-price of $1 and one surprise luxury item, also at a fixed-price of $1. Items will include popular toys and games, fashion accessories, sporting goods and electronics.• Microsoft Live Search cashback: Shoppers who arrive at eBay through Microsoft Live Search (www.live.com) can receive up to 30 percent cash back on the purchase of any eligible fixed-price item when using a PayPal account through the Microsoft Live Search cashback program. That cash back, on top of eBay’s already low prices, can generate savings up to 60 percent total on many of the hot gift items available for sale across the site.
In addition, eBay announced that shoppers will find over 3.5 million listings on eBay with free shipping this holiday, offering shoppers even more value. Free shipping and other deals can be combined with coupons for 10 percent off that will be issued to millions of qualified eBay buyers this season, through members’ “My eBay” accounts.
Information on all of eBay’s holiday deals will be featured on an eBay deals page located at www.ebay.com/deals, debuting on November 3rd.
Cheers,
RBH

Where is the major media holiday advertising?
Part of the ebay fees we pay should go toward getting us more customers.
Ebay expects us to pay their massive fees and market/advertise our auctions on our own with zero help from them.
Thanks ebay, nice to know you really support your sellers. Just pocket those massive fees and spend nothing on seed.
Also, what the has ebay done to the crawlabilty of their site? Ebay US auctions have literally dropped out of Google. When I search for my stuff, I can my auctions as they appear on Ebay.ca nad ebay vietnam, but not Ebay.com.

So just whose items are being promoted???
“available at a fixed-price and deep discount off MSRP with free shipping. These limited-quantity items will be available daily”
Who is the seller? eBay itself or Buy.com? Certainly not your average seller! Another blow from eBay to it’s customers, the sellers.
BAD, BAD MOVE!

Oh boy, I’m excited. NOT!
This entire place is falling apart. Let me give you an example, Since we went “Paperless” payments, I’m getting constant complaints from my buyers that they are unable to pay using their Credit Cards. I thought you didn’t need a Paypal account in order to pay with your CC. I thought was the WHOLE idea of this paperless policy. Well, it isn’t working. It appears these buyers do not have a Paypal account, and the system will NOT let them use their CC.
So what am I left with? Angry, frustrated buyers, who end up sending a check or MO anyway. And let me tell you, they are NOT angry at me, they are angry at YOU eBay. So go ahead, drive more buyers away. First you drove off sellers, now you can start driving off my remaining buyers.
Really GREAT plan ebay.

I actually think this is pretty cool. We’ll have to wait for the details, but I see ‘Deal of the Day’ for Amazon all the time. Even if this is for ‘large sellers’ only (we don’t know how it works yet), it can’t hurt by bringing more buyers to eBay.
This sounds like it has the same potential to drive repeat buyers, much like Amazon DotD and woot.com.

That’s it? Coupons?
What ever happened to ADVERTISING?
Ebay lost its Number 1 spot last year in traffic to Amazon and they do THIS?
What about TV campaigns, banner campaigns???
I’ve heard NOTHING to indicate anything is planned.

Well…if the other small sellers got the same bum’s rush I did then there’s no problem with the big box stores offering items at reduced rates….there just aren’t that many sellers left to complain about it :-) I’m spending the holidays at two small sites – one of which has an ad campaign in the wings and between those and my website I’ll hav a holiday season afterall. I got an Ebay coupon but there’s no reason to buy there if I’m not selling there. Its a simple fact.

Again, how about a return of Lorrie Norrington to INK to show us how small sellers have been cuddled since her first post here, due to our “value.” Should be a short, succinct post, alright. Is there such a thing as a negative wordcount?
I’m sure there is no place at the table for small sellers in these promos, like about every other aspect of eBay, after we built this business.

re: Microsoft Live Search cashback
i have been trying to figure this one out for a week. usually with the cashback you can see what your discount will be on live.com. i’m seeing no such indicators and hence am not buying the items i’m looking at. i’d really like to use this promo.
