"Big sellers have been a part of eBay since nearly the beginning; Sears, Disney, IBM, Dell, HP, etc to name a few. Some remain. But some found they couldn’t compete with existing sellers on eBay who by dint of their smaller size of operations, tend to operate much more efficiently than a bigger business."

This is the biggest bunch of hooey I have ever heard and I have been selling on ebay for 10 years.

Sears and Disney found they couldn't compete!!!!

Please, with statements like this how can any thinking person believe anything ebay says?

Dunno what you people are griping about, sell-thru is almost 20%. So multiply the listing cost by five to get the actual listing cost.

Looking at my portfolio, most of my online stocks are going down though. Today on CNN, they reported retail has had two months of consecutive devastating slumps.

JJH Cramer isn't the only one - this is twice he has come down on Ebay. A Deutshe Bank rep has downgraded Ebay stock to around 19.00 a share by Jan. 2009. He's been right on with the price of Ebay's stock all along. This is very telling...at least to me.

As for revenue - I know they lost me and thousands of other small sellers. Ebay did not come thru with their promise which was to get buyers back to the site. So...now small sellers are going elsewhere and taking their buyers with them. I don't know if Ebay figured this into their changes or not. I just know I can't afford to list there anymore and watch my listings roll off without bids. I can get the same action or better at sites where its free to list...and so that's the bottom line for small sellers. Clog up the site with junk from companies who get freebee listings and you smother the sellers who are actually paying the fees!

"eBay has lost touch with reality and the company is hapless."

Pat--- I'm happy to see a statement like that from a media outlet. The *ONLY* thing that is going to motivate eBay to do anything is MONEY. Not the sellers, not the buyers, but MONEY. Investor money.

Maybe now, as the money starts to retreat will some of these changes be reversed. Chalked up to an experiment that did not work.

One can only hope.

I'd like to see a management change too. They had their shot. It didn't work. Time for another group.

"In fact, big sellers have been a part of eBay since nearly the beginning; Sears, Disney, IBM, Dell, HP, etc to name a few. Some remain. But some found they couldn’t compete with existing sellers on eBay who by dint of their smaller size of operations, tend to operate much more efficiently than a bigger business."

they were also paying the same fees as the rest of us at that time.

"By bringing Diamond PowerSeller qualified businesses into the eBay marketplace, these businesses will bring along their sizeable buyer traffic."

i sell books, buy.com customers are not the same as mine. HOWEVER due to the mass amounts of lisstings my customers can't find me, they don't go and buy from buy, they just leave. if you think that dumping half a million books on the site doesn't hurt smaller seller by obscuring their listings then you need to go study business.

there is a lot for sellers to be worried about this fall, when we should be focusing on getting ready for the holidays. instead i think ebay management will be the grinch that stole christmas.

@Msfish213 - that's just what I've been saying. "Where's the beef?" They came out with a huge pile of rules, regulations and requirements and I know, with me at least, I finally gave up....like who cares what your rules are...I'm not making sales! I can list other places for free since I'm not making sales at the mighty Ebay!

I'm certainly not alone in this and even wallstreet has caught on. This from Jim Cramer just today:

"eBay (EBAY) -- “eBay has lost touch with reality and the company is hapless. They ought to sell themselves to someone. Stay away from eBay.”

I'm afraid most small sellers have to agree with that statement.

Where are all the buyers these changes were supposed to bring? The sell through rates for BIN bought items dropped drastically since the 6th of September. Hovering right at 20%, very strange indeed.

Dave wrote a great rebuttal on the Auctionbytes blog to the lack of a full denial here.

I think seller's sentiments are unanimous and eBay should be taking a long hard look in the mirror to see if they really like what is staring back at them or if they can't find a way to correct this terrible disaster.
