Unfortunately I don’t think there is one, or even a few, simplistic reasons for the eBay problems. IMO eBay can’t really see the scope of the problems because of their myopic view. Instead of addressing each individual “symptom”, eBay should really be taking a more holistic approach.

Currently my eBay traffic is up for two reasons – some of my competition has “gone away” involuntarily and because I am running very very cheap auctions right now.

My eBay traffic would definitely be down if I were not running cheap auctions which brings me good traffic. There are some product lines I am discontinuing and I have tens of thousands of units that I am auctionning off.

I am changing my product mix to better support my sales on alternate channels and by liquidating the discontinued product on eBay, I am driving traffic to my other eBay items.

Mechelle – that’s exactly what I’ve been experiencing – only more so. I get good traffic on Etsy! I shouldn’t be getting more traffic there then I’m getting on Ebay – that’s been my beef since best match went into effect! For the life of me I cannot see how you are enhancing a buyer’s experience by hiding items from him. Buyers also seem frustrated – so what is the good of this?

is your eBay traffic equivalent to what it was prior to the changes- best match?

Mine isn’t it has definitely decreased and the ratio of traffic source is significantly different than it was in January.

Would love that brews. It would not only help me but countless other small artists who are getting the same kind of result. Really angers me because when I look up my sales for last year – before all this meddling – I was hovering just below powerseller! Its absolutely insane what is happening to small sellers.

Well, we are now at 4 days, 12 hours with 12 hits on one and 8 hits on the other. Wow! I’m so unimpressed with Ebay’s ability to bring buyers and sellers together and their silence is exactly what I expected. I just wanted it in writing because these posts are being picked up in Google alerts on Ebay – I know because they come to me in my email and if they come to me – they’re going to a lot of others too ;-)
